Professional Air Conditioning Recharges

An air conditioning recharge is generally recommended every two years to keep your car’s system in the best shape possible, although recommendations may differ based on the environment you drive in and the type of gas used in your vehicle.

The cost of an air conditioning recharge is also dependent on the refrigerant you use in your vehicle. In the UK, most cars use either R134A or R1234YF refrigerants. The cost of a recharge for the former is £59.95, while the cost of a recharge for the latter is £129.95. Unfortunately, you cannot switch gases between recharges.

If you’re not sure what type of gas your car needs, one clue may be the year your car was manufactured. Most vehicles made before 2014 use R134A, while most vehicles made in 2017 or later use R1234YF. This is because the R134A, the old refrigerant, has been proven to damage the environment, so vehicles are no longer being produced to use this type of refrigerant.
